Here's a new sea song, following in the footsteps of the old ones. It's more of a tavern song for crews ashore, rather than a working song for crews at sea. As such, there is a certain degree of bawdiness and irreverence that may offend some - so here's fair warning up front. (Actually, it's innocuous pablum compared to a lot of music these days, but still...)
You will need a bit of an attention span for this one. The "shanty man" is a sailor who has signed aboard a ship, leaving his lady of dubious virtue behind. He delivers a litany of his opinions of various members of the ship's crew, from the rum-soaked skipper to the less-than-virtuous chaplain. As with a tavern rendition, the verses are interspersed with commentary with varying degrees of rudeness.
