| Morning Dew | A folk-rock song inspired by, well, you know, a member of the opposite sex. Like have been inspirin' musicians since music was 2 rocks banged together. "Oh no, not again" I hear you groan. Yes, again. Lyrics and back-story | LISTEN | DOWNLOAD MP3 |

| Neva Nights | A genre-defying song celebrating 15 amazing years living in the city founded by Peter the Great. Almost that long in the writing. St. Petersburg loves jazz, so there's some jazz. St. Petersburg is pretty funky (some of it). So there's some funk. I'm a country lad, so there's some down-home style banjo-pickin'. What genre is the song? Search me. No wait, I've got it... BANJO-CENTRIC! Lyrics and back-story | LISTEN | DOWNLOAD MP3 |

| Oodaloddie-A | A song about the short-sighted and socially irresponsible greed that has so far characterized the first part of the 21st century. The chorus is just nonsense. Sometimes, when you look at the nonsense your Fearless Leaders are engaged in at your expense, all you can do is pick up your banjo and sing some nonsense to go along with it. | Waiting Out the Winter | Summers in northwest Russia are glorious and fleeting, with the famed "White Nights". Then there comes a night when you wake up and hear the wild geese heading south, and in the morning you step outside and see V after huge V of them, and you know another summer is gone and it's time to batten down the hatches for the long dark winter ahead... which will not be all bad. | One of many variations on a traditional American folk song, arranged with a bit of Mississippi delta in mind. | |

| Shooting Stars | Folky romantic song about star-gazing on a summer's eve with a special someone. Written by my virtual BHO friend Greg Connor. Published here by permission – thanks, Greg! | LISTEN | DOWNLOAD MP3 | Copyrighted |
| Daddy Played the Banjo | A wonderful tune written by Steve Martin, from his Grammy winning album "The Crow". Hosted on the Banjo Hangout's jukebox for licensing reasons. | BHO JUKEBOX | NOT AVAIL. | Copyrighted |
| Two Soldiers | A traditional song dating from the American Civil War that speaks of the misery and anguish wars visit upon ordinary people. Apparently we haven't learned much since the 1860's. Bluegrass bands tend to play this tune to a sprightly tempo which to me just doesn't work. Seemed a good tune to banjo-centricize. | LISTEN | DOWNLOAD MP3 |

| Waltzing Matilda |
Because the unofficial national anthem of Australia was written by a man known as
"Banjo" Paterson, I felt that someone ought to
play it on the banjo. I found that the Scottish folk style tune to which
Christina Macpherson set Banjo's poem fit nicely in a country-rock style. It's hard to believe some corporation was granted an American copyright for Waltzing Matilda as an original song, considering it was clearly documented by historians as written in 1895 by Paterson, and first published in 1903. But it seems the 1941 US copyright is still in effect for North America so my recording is hosted on the Banjo Hangout which has the necessary licensing to allow you to listen to a song which by rights ought to be in the public domain by virtue of having been created prior to 1922. But such is the age we live in. |
